How to make Mickey charms

How to make Mickey charms (or knitting stitch markers)

Charm bracelets are a fun easy way to add some Disney to your wardrobe. Its also a good conversation starter in lines the ride lines at Disney.  This project can be done with little O’mouses.

Here is what you will need:

Materials:

EK Success Medium Mickey punch - Buy on Amazon

Sharpies - Buy on Amazon

Shrinkerz

2 sets of pliers

Hole punch

Scissors

Jump rings small and large

Pre made charm bracelet (not pictured)

1. Color the front and back of the Shrinkerz

2. Punch out your shape. 

3. Fill the space as best you can. 

4. Cut off the extra parts. I will make it easier to punch out the next row of mickey shapes.

5. Use the hole punch to punch a hole for the jump ring.

6. Bake the Shrinkerz following the directions on the package. 

7. Open the small ring using pliers. Hint: open the ring by twisting front to back. Don’t pull the ring open. It closes easier if you twist it open.

8. Put the Mickey shape and the large ring on the small ring.

9. Use the pliers to twist the ring closed.

10. Now you have a charm.

11. I was going to make my own bracelet but I found it was cheaper buy one already made.

I love to knit and one day a few knitting friends and I were making stitch markers to SWAP at a festival. Well I love everything Disney and had to find a way to add some Disney into my knitting projects.

When you knit you use little charms to mark different spots in your knitting to keep track of where you are in the pattern.

A long time ago...

{This is our first post in a monthly series where we have all 4 members of our family weigh in a single subject. We hope you enjoy.}

About 2 years ago, we were experiencing something new for us at Walt Disney World. Star Wars Weekends! We were traveling, in part to celebrate my son’s (Brother.Omouse) birthday and being that he is about as big a Star Wars fan as I am, we knew that filling our favorite place on earth with some of our favorite characters would make the trip incredibly special.

Star Wars Weekends is a special time at Walt Disney World, or at least at Hollywood Studios, when everything from the rope drop pre-opening entertainment, to the parade and even to the evening entertainment is all themed after Luke, Leia, and the crew. There are special shopping experiences, unique presentations, amazing themed food and what I think ended being the most photogenic attributes, characters!

Here are our favorite things about Star Wars Weekends:

• Sister.Omouse
• I am a super star wars fan and I love to celebrate! So I went to star wars weekend at Disney world. And Hollywood studios is packed full of people in cool costumes. I loved the parade, star wars parade has all of your favor it people like {Luke}, {Jedi Mickey}, and more. A cool thing is the car's dressed like space ships, when you go to star wars weekend!

• My favorite thing about Star Wars Weekend was the surprise my parents gave me. Durint Star Wars Weekend my surprise was called carbon freeze me. For those who don't know, it's an attraction where guests can get his face or her face scan bracket for affect the price bracket and printed onto a statute, in the style of Han Solo. When we went to the weekend, we had gone for my birthday. As we walk by the booth at ABC sound studio, bracket you know, the building with the huge American Idol ad? In bracket I thought of the oman houses were kidding when they said there was should be a reservation under our name. It took me a good while to realize that I was actually going to be frozen in carbonite bracket metaphorically speaking bracket now I have it neat little statue of a bracket handsome bracket young man that looks eerily familiar dot dot dot , Disney puts on many events.

• Mom.Omouse
• The best part of Star Wars Weekend is the character interaction. They have the traditional meet and greet where you wait in line and see characters like Luke, Padme, or Storm Troopers and they have charters that that wander around and interact with guests. We had two interactions that were amazing.
  

• The first was a meet and greet with Anakin. We were showing Anakin our very cool blow-up lightsabers and Ahsoka walked by after finishing Jedi Training Academy. She saw the pink lightsabers and got very upset at Anakin because he told her that pink was not a color you could use for a lightsaber. Ahsoka argued with Anakin over the pink lightsabers, he had to show her that our lightsabers were not good ones because they bent in the middle.
  

• The second interaction was with a charter that just wanders around. Sister Omouse and I were goofing off with our blow up lightsabers when Aurra Sing came up. Sister Omouse and Aurra Sing stared each other down. Sister Omouse did not flinch at all, she stood her ground.
  

  

   
• Dad.Omouse
• Its so hard to narrow it down to 1 thing. I am going to have to say that my top 3 things, no particular order were: the parade with the 501st and Rebel Legion, Jedi Mickey, all of the characters and celebrities and special merchandise and meeting one of the artists.
  

So I think its pretty obvious that we had an amazing time and that even the lines were incredibly long and the park was a lot more busy it was definitely worth it for us to go during one of the Star Wars Weekends events. Now as they say “your mileage may vary.” We are definite fans. We threw ourselves’ into the fun. We were prepared for longer lines and wait times (although we could’ve been more prepared). We can’t wait to do it again.

Welcome Home!

Welcome home!

This is our intro post and "About" page. We are a family, of four, whom have caught the Disney fan bug. We have fallen in love with Walt Disney World (and the idea of the other parks), the movies, the collectibles, the music and many of the other things that come from the Mouse. Our interest has grown of the past 14 years, as our family has grown. As our love has grown so has consumption of online fan made content about all things Disney.

That brings us to why we have created this blog. There are three reasons we began this journey. They are:

• We wanted to give back to the community that has given so much to us. Whether it is just enjoying news and art or learning money saving tips and being inspired to make crafts, we love all of the love that makes up the online fan community.
• Encouraging our kids to write more and trying to improve our own writing skills. Often the best way to get better at something is do it. Over and over and over again. (Hopefully it isn't too painful for our readers as we begin).
• Lastly, because we think it will be fun to do. 

We are four different people and find different things fun. So there will be all sorts of different posts here. You can expect posts about crafts, both simple and complex. Also I am a geek, so expect posts about personal tech (like phones), DIY projects and even the technology in the parks. We are really serious gamers but expect some posts about that. We don't spend a lot of money on collectibles but we do enjoy bringing the magic into our home and life. All this and much, much more.  :)
